Even after more than two years of full-scale war, most Ukrainians remain defiant.

A new national poll reveals that 60% of the country is willing to keep resisting Russia’s invasion “as long as necessary”—a sign that, despite exhaustion and hardship, the fighting spirit hasn’t faded.

The survey, carried out by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) between May 15 and June 3, shows a rebound in moralem, Digi24 reports.

In March, only 54% were prepared to endure the war without a timeline. Now, that figure is rising again.

Endurance shaped by geography and age

Ukrainians living near the eastern front, where the war’s toll is most direct, are less optimistic: just 51% in those regions say they can hold out indefinitely.

Further from the front, resolve appears stronger—especially among older citizens. Those over 50 were the most likely to say they’re ready to resist for the long haul.

Another 6% of respondents said they could continue for at least one more year. Twenty percent admitted they may only have a few more months of resilience left in them, down from 24% in March.

Fourteen percent remain unsure how much more they can take.

Staying power in uncertain times

The poll is based on 1,011 phone interviews with adults living in Ukrainian-controlled territory.

KIIS researchers say the bump in long-term resolve may reflect a stabilizing sense of purpose, even as air raid sirens and front-line headlines remain daily realities.

With no clear end to the war in sight, Ukraine’s civilian stamina is becoming a defining element of national resistance.

As one analyst put it, the willingness to “hold on as long as it takes” may prove just as critical as any military asset.
