She will be awarded the highest grade of the honor.

On November 2, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy granted one of his nation’s highest civilian honors, the Order of Princess Olga, First Class, to US First Lady Melania Trump.

Kyiv praised her dedication to shielding vulnerable boys and girls caught in the crossfire.

A presidential decree cited her “significant personal contribution to humanitarian support for Ukraine, active human rights advocacy and charitable activities aimed at rescuing Ukrainian children and citizens affected by Russian aggression, illegally deported and forcibly displaced from the territories of Ukraine temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation.”

Her team shared in the recognition. Through an additional decree, Ukraine conferred its Golden Heart distinction upon Mark Beckman, a senior aide who helped steer her initiatives. Beckman worked alongside the First Lady throughout the process.

A fragile truce

The awards stem from an urgent rescue effort in southern Ukraine. Melania Trump stepped forward to negotiate a temporary ceasefire in Oleshky, a Kherson municipality held by Russian troops. Unveiled by the White House on October 23, the truce sought to clear safe routes so trapped families could flee.

A majority of those left behind are elderly pensioners who lack basic essentials. Describing the crisis unfolding in the community, the First Lady was blunt. “The situation in Oleshky is dire. Oleshky is a front-line war city on the brink of disaster,” Melania Trump stated, stressing the urgent need for food, clean water, and medicine.

Her involvement shows no sign of slowing down. After opening direct channels between Kyiv and Moscow on her own initiative, she has invited both parties to Washington. Delegates from each side are scheduled to meet with her at the White House on November 5 to hammer out future relief corridors.
