Behind the scenes, the national economy is pivoting directly toward a wartime footing.

When a neighbor quietly shifts its military posture, the whole region pays close attention. It is a terrifying prospect. A new assessment suggests one nation is already laying the groundwork for direct entry into an ongoing war.

Shifting the doctrine

The United Transitional Cabinet of Belarus recently issued a stark warning. This democratic opposition group believes President Alexander Lukashenko is actively preparing to join the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

According to United24 Media, the group formally shared a detailed assessment with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. Deputy head Pavel Latushka delivered the findings, which outline eight clear signs of military escalation.

The report notes that the government recently altered its military doctrine to allow preemptive strikes. It also removed the neutral and non-nuclear status from the national constitution.

Building the ranks

The opposition claims the regime is aggressively expanding its combat forces. Since 2022, the number of contract soldiers has increased by an estimated fifty percent. The broader mobilization reserve now stands at an overwhelming 300,000 people, giving the military a massive pool of potential fighters.

A new Southern Operational Command is taking shape near the Ukrainian border. This new unit could eventually hold more than 80,000 troops.

Authorities are also assembling a vast civilian militia. It could include up to 150,000 members. The military has started sending draft notices via text message and recruiting prisoners directly into the combat ranks.

A wartime economy

Behind the scenes, the national economy is pivoting directly toward a wartime footing. Defense spending has skyrocketed. It has increased fivefold over the past four years alone.

The domestic defense sector is now completely integrated with the Russian military machine. According to the opposition report, the army introduced over 4,000 pieces of new hardware in 2024.

Russian troops remain stationed inside the country, alongside tactical nuclear weapons and advanced missile systems. Wagner Group mercenaries are also reportedly training local units.

Watching the border

The regime is pouring heavy resources into the border regions facing Ukraine, Poland, and Lithuania. New defensive lines are springing up. Logistical upgrades are being built to support major Russian military movements.

Civilians are also seeing changes in their daily lives. Authorities are inspecting thousands of bomb shelters in the capital and running regular alarm tests.

During a recent visit to Kyiv, opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya praised the Ukrainian war effort. “Ukraine’s resistance to Russia’s full-scale invasion serves as a key source of strength and inspiration for Belarusians,” she stated, according to United24 Media.
