It’s the equivalent to one lost every 35 minutes for 24 hours.
The war in Ukraine keeps raging, and the Russian forces are continuing to suffer heavy losses for minimal gains.
This morning, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine released its daily update on the Russian losses for September 15, and with an additional 1,400 troops lost (killed and wounded), the total personnel losses of the Russian forces have now reached roughly 1.51 million.
And it is not looking better for the Russians when it comes to military hardware.
41 artillery systems lost in a day
According to the update from the General Staff, Russia lost 41 artillery systems over the course of the past 24 hours.
That is equivalent to one artillery system lost every 35 minutes throughout the day.
This brings the total number of Russian artillery systems lost during the war to just shy of 50,000, as the total number of artillery systems lost is now estimated to be approx. 49,790.
2026 gains basically wiped out
In its September 12 update on the war, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) notes that local Ukrainian counterattacks have wiped out Moscow’s net progress across key sectors.
This marks the first sustained shift in momentum since late 2024.
Neither side currently holds total control across the wider battlefield. Analysts and intelligence officials assess that Russian commanders are reportedly pressing President Vladimir Putin for a massive new mobilization call-up, up to 800,000 troops.
They hope more troops will rebuild their momentum, though experts doubt it would quickly turn the tide against Ukraine’s advanced drone tactics.
The Kremlin has repeatedly denied any plans for a new mobilization, but the assessment is that it will happen following the Russian elections for the Duma later this month.
