Ukrainian officials report more deadly drone attacks in the Dnipropetrovsk region, as Russia intensifies overnight strikes across multiple territories.

Civilian Casualties in Latest Russian Drone Attacks

Two civilians were killed and several others injured after a wave of Russian drone strikes hit Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region overnight, local officials confirmed on August 29.

Despite the successful interception of eight drones by Ukrainian air defense, the attack left a deadly mark.

Fires Spread to Fire Station

According to Serhii Lysak, Head of the Regional Military Administration, at least three people were wounded in the strikes, including two men in the city of Dnipro—one of whom remains in serious condition.

Emergency crews quickly extinguished fires triggered by the attack, but not before damage was done to a fire station and a key infrastructure facility.

The attacks extended beyond Dnipro, with Mezhivska, Slovianska, Pokrovska, and Vasylkivska communities in the Synelnykove district all reportedly targeted.

A man and a woman were killed in one of the strikes, while a 50-year-old woman sustained injuries and was treated on site.

Local Communities Up in Flames

Fires broke out across residential properties, a business site, dry grasslands, and even a gas station—destroying vehicles and triggering panic in local communities.

In the Kryvyi Rih district, a drone ignited a blaze in the Novopilska community, which firefighters were able to contain.

In Nikopol, FPV drones—first-person view drones often used for kamikaze-style attacks—struck Marhanetska, Myrivska, and Pokrovska communities.

Rising Toll as Air Attacks Expand

This latest strike comes just days after a devastating missile and drone attack on Kyiv, which killed at least 18 people, including three children aged 2, 14, and 17, and wounded over 48 others.

While Ukrainian air defenses have improved significantly since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, the Kremlin’s strategy of saturating cities and civilian infrastructure with drones and missiles continues to cause fatalities and trauma.

“Effective Defense, But Not Enough”

“Despite the effective work of our defenders, the attacks still caused casualties and destruction,” Lysak stated.

Meanwhile, Kyiv continues to call on its allies for more air defense systems and advanced radar capabilities, warning that Russia’s use of cheap, mass-produced drones allows it to launch sustained attacks across large swathes of the country.
