Canada is providing Moldova with a soft loan of 120 million Canadian dollars (about $92 million) to aid in the support and accommodation of Ukrainian refugees, reports Ukrinform.
This financial assistance was announced by Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly in Ottawa.
Joly emphasized that the loan will help Moldova maintain financial stability while pursuing a comprehensive reform agenda and addressing challenges posed by Russian actions aimed at destabilizing its democracy.
The loan will be issued through the World Bank and is structured for repayment over 10 years.
Canadian International Development Minister Ahmed Hussen reiterated Canada’s commitment to supporting Moldova, both in managing the refugee situation and in promoting long-term economic growth.
This announcement aligns with ongoing international efforts, including the Fifth Conference of the Partnership Platform for Moldova, currently taking place in Chisinau.
Initiated by Germany, France, and Romania shortly after the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the conference aims to strengthen Moldova’s resilience and garner additional global support.
