Longtime Republican strategist Karl Rove sent shockwaves through the conservative establishment on Monday by announcing he will cast his vote for a Democrat.
Rove, famously known for architecting presidential victories during the George W. Bush administration, broke ranks over the controversial behavior of Bo French. The GOP candidate for the Texas Railroad Commission sparked widespread outrage after publishing a racist online post targeting South Asian students at the University of Texas at Austin.
Sharing a photograph showing mostly brown-skinned university fans celebrating at a Longhorns football game, French ignited immediate backlash.
“I heard UT graduation this year looked like this. I didn’t believe it. The problem is now obviously far worse than anyone imagined,” French wrote alongside the image, according to RawStory.
Refusing to apologize or withdraw his statements, French doubled down despite facing criticism from several fellow Texas Republicans.
Social Media Fury from Mar-a-Lago
Donald Trump responded to Rove’s cross-party endorsement by launching a scathing digital attack on his Truth Social network.
Venting his frustration on Monday, the president tore directly into the veteran strategist’s political track record and standing within conservative media circles.
“Karl Rove is so bad for the Republican Party, and completely wrong so often,” wrote Trump. “He suffers from a major case of Trump Derangement Syndrome primarily because, for almost 10 years, I beat back and won against so many of the people and things that he wanted and espoused.”
Targeting major news outlets that continue hosting the former strategist, Trump raised further questions about Rove’s influence.
“Why does Fox News and the WSJ keep his RINO Voice alive,” Trump added. “The guy is a stone cold loser!”
