The incident involved the accidental release of Secret Service details to an unsuspecting member of the public.

As part of the security operation, Secret Service agents were stationed around key locations, including the 545-bed Elmhurst Hospital Centre in Queens—officially known as NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst.

This facility often serves as a standby medical location during presidential visits.

A mistaken addition raises eyebrows

In a surprising turn, a hospital official accidentally added a random member of the public to the internal chat.

The person was not affiliated with the hospital and had no clearance to receive such information.

“Just awareness”

According to Express.co.uk, the initial message read:

“Happy Sunday… just updating… a Secret Service agent from White House Medical Unit just called… will be posted by the hospital until around 6pm for usual precaution when #1 is passing via.”

It stressed no action was required—only awareness.

The moment the mistake was realized

After a few hospital staff acknowledged the message, the anonymous citizen noticed the mix-up and replied:

“Ummmm I am certainly not a part of this convo.”

A hospital official quickly responded: “OK thanks.”

Citizen left stunned

“I could not believe it – I thought it was a prank. I looked up the numbers and saw they were all medical officials in New York City.”

Hospital and Secret Service respond

Despite the error, NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst emphasized their role as a medical standby for presidential visits and insisted the situation posed no real threat.

“No security impact”

The U.S. Secret Service downplayed the incident, stating:

“There was no security impact to this event. Pre-event communication between the Secret Service and our partners is standard.”
