Some celebrities reinvent themselves through new music or fashion. Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, prefers to go straight to the name itself.

And now, he’s doing it again.

According to new legal documents filed in California, the rapper has officially requested to change his name once more, writes Ziare.

He now wants to be known as “Ye Ye.” This move follows his 2021 name change from Kanye Omari West to just Ye.

The Documents Have Been Signed

The new name isn’t just for show. Documents show that Ye Ye is already being used on official papers tied to his businesses, including Yeezy Apparel and Yeezy Record Label.

These documents were signed by his CFO, Hussain Lalani. They replace the previous version of his name, “Ye West.”

So far, Ye hasn’t talked publicly about this most recent change. But fans got a hint back in early June.

On the social media platform X, he posted, “I will no longer use the name Kanye West, I am now Ye.”

Ye Said What About the Name “Kanye”?

He made a similar announcement in 2018, which later led to the official name change three years later.

In March 2024, Ye’s chief of staff, Milo Yiannopoulos, sent a letter to media outlets asking them to stop using his old name entirely.

In the letter, he called the name Kanye a “slave name” and said it should no longer be used.

The letter also claimed Ye is as well-known as world leaders and religious figures.

Comes with Risks

There’s some curiosity about how this will affect his business ventures. The name Kanye West still carries huge weight in fashion and music.

Changing it again could create confusion. Still, those close to Ye say the decision wasn’t made lightly.

Yiannopoulos said the risks were clear. Changing a name tied to billions in branding and global recognition takes guts.

But for Ye, it’s also about control. He wants to own every part of his identity.

Whether people call him Kanye, Ye, or now Ye Ye, one thing’s certain. He knows how to stay in the conversation.
