A first look at Supergirl is nearly here, marking a major step toward the film’s 2026 debut.

The project introduces Milly Alcock’s version of Kara Zor-El as she moves into her own story in James Gunn’s revamped DC Universe.

The teaser just dropped this week of December 8, 2025, giving fans an early glimpse at the franchise’s next Kryptonian-led feature.

Taking flight soon

Alcock first stepped into the role earlier in 2025 in Superman, led by David Corenswet.

She appeared briefly at the film’s close, arriving at the Fortress of Solitude to retrieve her dog, Krypto, a character set to continue alongside her in the standalone movie.

Production wrapped in May 2025 under director Craig Gillespie.

The script was written by Ana Nogueira, who is also developing new Wonder Woman and Teen Titans stories for DC Studios, according to previous studio announcements.

Comic roots

The film draws heavily from Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the acclaimed comic series by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.

King, who has helped shape several DCU projects including Lanterns, contributed to the adaptation’s creative framework.

The movie promises a tougher interpretation of Kara, leaning into the comic’s more hardened portrayal of Superman’s cousin as she ventures beyond Earth.

New faces in the DCU

One of the biggest additions comes from the former DCEU era: Jason Momoa is set to debut as Lobo.

Speaking with ScreenRant’s Ash Crossan earlier in 2025, Momoa described his enthusiasm and nerves about playing the intergalactic outlaw.

“Well, this is the role I’ve always wanted to play. That’s the comic I loved, so I’m really nervous about it,” he said. “It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It’s pretty big… we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I’ll say the bike’s really cool.”

When asked whether fans can expect more of Lobo in future installments, he added, “I hope so. I hope so. I hope so. It’s her movie, so it’s great. I just come in for a little bit.”

Supergirl is scheduled to release in theaters on June 26, 2026.
