Ukraine says it is intensifying a campaign aimed at weakening Russia’s military capabilities.
Recent strikes suggest Kyiv is focusing on a key vulnerability in the conflict.

According to Onet, Ukrainian forces have carried out a series of attacks on Russian air defence systems, destroying equipment worth more than $200m in the past week alone.

Officials describe the approach as a deliberate effort to steadily reduce Russia’s ability to protect its forces and territory from aerial threats.

Targeting systems

Ukrainian unmanned forces said the latest operations hit several advanced systems, including S-350 and Tor variants, as well as Osa air defence units.

“This is a methodical attrition of the aggressor’s forces, with each precise strike bringing the enemy closer to financial and technical defeat,” the unit said in a statement reported by Onet.

The strikes form part of a broader strategy focused on dismantling critical defensive infrastructure.

Strategic impact

Military analysts cited by Onet say weakening air defences has multiple effects. It makes it easier for Ukraine’s air force to operate and improves support for troops on the ground.

It also expands the reach of drone operations, allowing them to penetrate deeper into contested areas.

In addition, reduced air cover can open the way for longer-range strikes targeting locations inside Russian territory.

Sustained campaign

Since June 2025, Ukraine has reportedly launched more than 500 attacks against Russian air defence assets, according to Onet.

The scale of the campaign suggests that Russia is struggling to replace lost systems quickly enough to maintain full coverage.

Recent operations have included long-distance drone strikes, with one reportedly reaching a range of 1,800km.

Ongoing pressure

Ukrainian officials argue that continued pressure will further strain Russia’s resources and expose gaps in its defences.

They say the strategy is designed not only to achieve immediate battlefield gains but also to create long-term disadvantages for Moscow’s military capabilities.

The developments point to an evolving phase of the conflict, where targeting infrastructure may play an increasingly decisive role.
