The conflict between Ukraine and Russia has seen numerous tactical shifts and innovations, both on the ground and in the air.

With modern weaponry and strategies in play, the war has highlighted the resilience of Ukrainian forces and the evolving nature of warfare.

These battles are not just about territorial control but also about showcasing technological and strategic superiority on both sides.

In one such confrontation, Ukrainian border guards from the RUBPAK Phoenix unit of the Pomsta Brigade successfully repelled a Russian assault near Kurdiumivka in the Donetsk region.

According to Ukraine's State Border Guard Service (SBGS), the operation resulted in significant losses for the Russian forces.

Three Russian tanks, including two T-72 models, were destroyed during the counterattack.

One of the T-72 tanks was neutralized by a remotely placed mine, showcasing the effectiveness of Ukrainian defensive strategies.

Additionally, four Russian infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) were taken out, thanks to the precision deployment of heavy Vampire bombers and FPV drones.

The T-72, a mainstay of the Russian military, is a Soviet-era main battle tank that has seen numerous upgrades over the decades.

It features a 125mm smoothbore gun, which can fire a variety of ammunition types, including high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) and armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot (APFSDS) rounds.

The tank is powered by a V-12 diesel engine, providing it with a top speed of 37 mph (60 km/h) on roads.

Despite its durability and firepower, the T-72 has vulnerabilities, particularly when faced with modern anti-tank weapons and mines.

The Ukrainian forces’ success near Kurdiumivka also included the destruction of Russian supply lines.

In previous engagements, the SBGS Phoenix unit had taken out a tank, a self-propelled artillery system, and a depot of fuel and lubricants in the Kreminna area.
