Poland warns that while Russia cannot directly attack NATO, the Kremlin may escalate sabotage and hybrid attacks against Western countries.

The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on the social media platform X, that Russia is currently unable to carry out a direct attack on NATO under the present circumstances, according to UNN, cited by Digi24.

At the same time, Warsaw fears that the Kremlin will resort to sabotage and smaller provocations against Western countries.

According to the ministry, several Western European countries are underestimating Vladimir Putin’s intentions. Since the invasion of Ukraine, Poland has pushed for a greater military presence closer to Russia’s borders.

Fears of Hybrid Attacks

Poland believes that Russia can still create instability without launching a full-scale war. Therefore, NATO should be prepared for multiple forms of threats, according to the assessment.

The ministry also points out that larger Russian troop movements would most likely be detected through surveillance and satellite imagery.

The warning comes as NATO is working on new contingency plans for the Baltic states. Among other measures, the alliance is preparing for the faster deployment of troops to Latvia and Estonia in the event of a conflict.

Russia Under Economic Pressure

At the same time, there have been other statements expressing concern that Russia’s next step could be to expand the war into Europe.

We previously reported on this, after EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas recently stated, that the risk of Russia expanding the war into a broader confrontation cannot be ruled out.

She warned of possible future attacks, arguing that if Russia were to attack only Ukraine, it would be seen as a sign of weakness for Russia, which is already under economic pressure.
